VILLA GROVE – Earvin Westray is a guy who likes to take chances, and oftentimes Villa Grove coach Chad Musselman gets on his cornerback in practice.
"Coach doesn't like me doing that too much," Westray said. "He likes for me to play it safe."
Westray took a couple of chances Friday night, picking off a pair of passes – one of which he returned 35 yards for a touchdown – as Villa Grove's Blue Devils routed Bismarck-Henning's Blue Devils 35-7 at Ross Ghere Field.
"If I see something, I'm gonna go for it because I feel like I can read it pretty well out there," Westray said. "I don't get beat, and I don't plan on it, either."
His interceptions came on consecutive B-H drives in the third quarter. The first was worthy of highlight reels as he dove in front of a B-H receiver and scooped the ball up just as it was about to hit the grass.
"I knew it was gonna be short so I just dove for it. I felt it with one hand, and I just rolled up with it," Westray said.
Westray also caught the passes intended for him, hauling in two balls for 28 yards including a 22-yard TD reception from quarterback Eric Douglas (10 of 20, 132 yards, TD).
